I played D86 in a friendly last night. Good game and good sportsman. I didn't realise he had gone to the trouble of picking a team from the scraps left over from the draft. I reckon I would feel pretty ripped off having a team of leftovers. Do you have to play a custom team for champions cup games? Or could you use a standard NRL 2013 team as well?

NRL / Re: Tipping Comp

OK I've set up a tipping comp to join with the Telegraph/Herald Sun/Courier Mail. The Playstation Cup.

Go to http://nrltipping.dailytelegraph.com.au

You have to set up an account with News. But you don't have to pay any money.
It's free to enter and play.

When registering for the tipping, tick the box that says you were invited to join a league, and type in the code 840325

They have a weekly prize of $250 that is Australia wide.  So you would have to be pretty good to get it. (You have to be an Australian resident to be able to claim prizes)
And an overall prize of $20,000. But you can only get the overall prize if you are a News Digital Subscriber. Which is about 5 bucks a week or so.

Feel free to join and invite other people. I think there is room for stacks of people to be in the comp.

Can't find Will Hopoate in the 2012 or 2013 lists.
I'll swap him out for Kevin Gordon.

I'll be in for the world cup edition one. I'll think of a team name.

I have had a go at another comp. The Sportgamer one. I think i've started about 3 seasons or so and every time it never finishes. Sometimes it dissolves just a few weeks in.
It seems to me this happens because people go into the comp with all intentions of winning and being the ultimate champion. But as soon as they start to lose they have no interest in playing the comp out. I think it is very hard to find devoted players that will play the season out even if they are getting the spoon.
I liked the comp you ran last time Benz in that if a player hadn't played their game by the weeks end, a substitute player was put in to play the game out to keep the season up to date.
I'd be interested to know how the other comps that have actually concluded manage to do it.

I hate the glitch where you pass the ball and it goes flick one side and then looks like it flicks back to the other side and then somehow ends up 10 metres forward on the ground for the opposition to pick up. Sometimes in a game it will happen to both teams and kind of balances out. But other times it will happen to you 3 times in a row.

I'm not a fan of the short kick to regather. Especially when the player doing it is already 10 points ahead or so. That is just rude.
I think if you are behind and its in the last 10 mins or so i'm pretty ok with it.
I also hate the deliberate kick into a defender to regather. But if a player does it all the time you can anticipate it and be ready to dive on the ball. Sometimes that can put them at a big disadvantage if they have tried it in their own half.

I have a rule that if anyone is doing short kicks it's ok to play anything goes back at them. And I like to do lots of arm waving celebrations against the short kick deadbeats. And feel very satisfied if they quit like a ****.

I love the shoulder charge when defending. And coming out of your own half hitting the ball up. But I have seen that players don't really like it if you shoulder charge over for tries. So I have been trying to avoid using shoulder charges when attacking inside the oppositions 20.(Unless they are doing short kicks of course. Then I shoulder charge the crap out of them.)

In my view its ok to shoulder charge as much as you feel in defence. Because if you are running in for shoulder charges all the time the opposition can use short passes to run the gap you make. And it will make you back off.
